Setup

From install to your first collection.

A calm first evening with CrateSync. Most people are listening within the hour.

What you’ll need

  • A Mac with macOS 14 or later, or a Windows PC.
  • Your own Telegram account, already a member of the groups, channels or music bots you want to follow.
  • Your own Telegram API ID and API hash from my.telegram.org. The desktop app shows you where to find them, and it takes about two minutes.
  • Room on your drive for the music you choose to keep.

Your API ID, API hash and Telegram login stay between you, Telegram and the app on your computer. This website never asks for them, and nobody from CrateSync will.

Already installed? Updating

macOS

  1. Quit CrateSync: CrateSync menu › Quit (closing the window keeps it running).
  2. Download CrateSync-1.1.6.dmg from the CrateSync website (Setup, or your account page), open it and drag CrateSync into Applications. Choose Replace.
  3. Open it again the way you did the first time (macOS 15 and later: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Open Anyway. macOS 14: Control-click › Open). macOS asks once per new version.
  4. If macOS asks about the Keychain, enter your Mac password and click Always Allow.

Windows

  1. Quit CrateSync: right-click its icon by the clock › Quit CrateSync (closing the window keeps it running).
  2. Download CrateSync-Setup-1.1.6.exe from the CrateSync website (Setup, or your account page) and run it. It installs over the old version; if CrateSync is still open, the installer offers to close it.
  3. If Windows says "Windows protected your PC" again: More info › Run anyway. Windows asks once per new version.

2. Connect Telegram

  1. Open CrateSync and follow the welcome steps.
  2. Enter your API ID and API hash, then sign in to Telegram with your phone number and the code Telegram sends you.
  3. Choose the groups, channels and music bots you want CrateSync to follow. You can change this any time.

3. Build your first collection

Choose Start Building My Library. CrateSync reads the shares in your chosen chats and starts recognizing releases from links, filenames, tags and tracklists, including ZIP and RAR archives. Larger groups take longer the first time.

Anything uncertain lands in Needs Review, where you can confirm or correct it. Your corrections are kept.

4. Listen and curate

Play a release. WAV, AIFF, FLAC and MP3 start as they arrive. Save favorites, start a playlist, and when you’re ready, export it as M3U or bring downloaded tracks into rekordbox with an XML import.
